The Phantom – Attorney At Law

So I kind of stumbled across some old news that The Phantom (Fantomen in Sweden) was going to get a new 4 hour mini series on the Syfy network. Now, I love The Phantom. He is a kick ass super hero. But when I saw the trailer, I got disappointed to say the least…

It could have been quite interesting. It looks very much like an episode of CSI, and the budget isn’t that super. But that’s allright. But when it passed the 1 minute mark in the trailer, that’s when I started boubting this mini series. How can you diss the awesomeness that is The Phantom’s suit? Sure it’s purple, and the Swedish blue version is more awesome. But when it get’s replaced with the new one…. oooh boy.

It’s that stupid hoodie… helmet… thing that just makes the outfit look stupid. Couldn’t they atleast have left the hood and mask from the original design and used the new design for everything else? That could have worked. It looked good in the Spirit for example. This just isn’t the Phantom. THIS is The Phantom.

Now, I know that it’s very hard to get new life into an old series like The Phantom. The more I started thinking about it, I came back to one series that did something very hilarious when they rebooted their character. And that was Hannah Barbera’s “Birdman”.

Never heard of him? Well I don’t blame you. He was a solar powered superhero that was aired on Saturday morning in the US in the 60’s. I saw it on the Cartoon Network once I came hom from school during year 5-6. But recently they used the license to restart the Birdman series, renaming it “Harvey Birdman – Attorney At Law” and making it into a cartoon sitcom. And what can I tell you. It’s comedic gold :)

Now, every episode Harvey get’s a case where he tries to help other Hannah Barbera cartoons out of tricky problems. Like the Fred Flintstone episode where they spoof The Soprano’s. If that sounds interesting, you can watch all the episodes here :)

And since I am such a big fan of the show, I couldn’t resist of Spoofing the same concept, only with The Phantom.  And how I think that things are done over at the Syfy channel :)

So enjoy and I will see you guys next time!

The pilot episode for the new Phantom was two 2-hour long episodes that has already been shown as far as I know. They were actually better than I thought, although as it is right now it could go either way…
