So, I’ve been playing a lot of chess lately. I used to be pretty into it when I was around 10 to 14 years old, but like a mysterious stranger, it just kind of shows up in my life every now and again. These days, I try to play at least one quick game a day, plus a few chess puzzles—gotta keep the ol’ brain-meat from turning into mush.

Sometimes I catch myself wondering, “What would Cthulhu do in this position?” I mean, he’d probably invent some ancient, epic lore for each piece and then launch into a Shakespearean monologue halfway through the match. Honestly, that might be a solid distraction tactic. I should give it a try.
